red-bordered white number when shooting in missions

Does anyone know what the red-bordered white number means when shooting/killing a walker or enemy? Often the number is higher than the amount of health. And even when it is higher the walker/enemy isn't dead and need to be shot again.
Any suggestion?

What makes you think that? :) Human enemies do take minimum two shots to kill - one to induce the bleeding state and one to finish off.

thanks for your prompt reply, @Teeceezy .
I saw it several times that the walker didn't die even when the number was higher then his personal amount of health.
But anyway, maybe it's just another visual glitch?! ;)

    Really? No one any idea?
Obviously the number is related to the amount of the individual damage of each survivor. But sometimes the shown red-bordered white number for the first shot of a walker is even higher. Very confusing.

That'd be the damage inflicted by a survivor when attacking a walker or human enemy.

mmmmh?! Sometimes even when the shown number is higher than the health of a walker or human enemy he won't die.
    Please, enlighten me, @Teeceezy
