Equipment Maximum

What's the official maximum number of equipment pieces a player can have? I was under the belief that 300 was the limit but got auto-scrapped today with a message informing me that the threshold is actually 280. As a result I've now lost about 100 items I was holding as an "XP investment" for when the next update rolls out.
Anyone else have this happen?

280 is the maximum but auto scrap happens at 300. It was updated in update 1.9.

No, only equipped items and upgraded items. My understanding is that it goes by rarity then levels. So if you have items that you want to keep make sure it's either equipped or upgraded. I try not to hit the auto scrap limit as much as possible just in case.
-
Isn't it 280 non-equipped items? So, 280 + (2 * # of survivors)?? Not really a huge difference, but worth noting.
@THX_1138 -- in theory, your purchases items shouldn't be scrapped since common, uncommon, rare gear is scrapped before epic and legendary (even if the epic/leg is of a lower level than the other types). It would require a LOT of legendary gear in your inventory before your purchased items would be scrapped, but I'm not sure if it's completely immune from the auto scrap AI. -
@OneLessTitan , yes that's my understanding but @THX_1138 question was what's immune to auto scrapping, as far as I am aware only equipped or upgraded items are immune (not sure what happens if you have more than 280 non-equipped, upgraded items, and it auto scraps).
-
I've never had this happen thankfully! But is that correct as @THX_1138 mentioned, he hit the threshold and lost 100 items!? Is that the norm? Why wouldn't it just auto scrap to back down to the 280? 100 seems extremely excessive.. Any idea @zbot⚔️ Leader/Elder TheHerdReborn/TheHerdReturned⚔️

This is the sort of thing that should be on there FAQ/Help pages, but I understand because developers generally hate documentation.
There are a lot of questions that are asked here that shouldn't need to be.
-
So to be clear: can the game auto-scrap a purchased item?
I just want to be as unambiguous as possible here. -
@Mystique
I admit, I didn't document everything but I received a message this morning that I'd exceeded the limit (Apparently either 280 or 300) and was being purged.
Afterward, I played a full day and kept every single piece of equipment I received. After that grind, I still only have 197 items at the time of posting so I'm confident in saying that hitting the 300 limit caused a purge of well over 100 units.
In fact, it looks like the forced scrap is half of one's inventory. -
This is based on my testing of this issue. Lower level gear that's upgraded is not scrapped. Gear equipped is not scrapped (even if lower rarity and level). Any other gear can be auto scrapped but it follows rarity (lower rarity first) and level (lower level first). So again, if you don't want anything auto scrapped, equip it to your extra survivors.
@THX_1138 , did you count your inventory or are you going by the counter on the equipment? The counter on the equipment only tells you how many items you can upgrade now with the XP you have.
-
@THX_1138
You can't go by the number on your equipment icon. That number represents only how many pieces of gear can be upgraded with the xp you currently have. It is not the total number... -
It doesn't purge anywhere near 100 items at a time, so unless you do some manual trashing it will cull a bunch more soon.
If you plan on purchasing the xp booster this weekend I'd advise you to do it then bc with the booster you will get 2x the xp value of the equipment -
@zbot @MizTy Thanks for your replies. It may have been a counting error on my part, but I still maintain that it was a very large portion of my inventory that was purged.
Nonetheless, my second question remains uhnswered. Can anyone confirm whether the game has the ability to auto-scrap purchased items if they're not equipped at the time I reach the limit? -
I wouldn't know. But the answers do give you a way to make sure: upgrade them, at least one trait.
And if you bought them, I'd assume they'd be the first to get upgraded, since you wouldn't have bought them just to leave them in the box, I hope. -
Thanks @MadPuppy
Your response was concise, thoughtful, and useful. I appreciate it. I really do. But I'm not looking for advice, I'm looking for an answer to the question.
Can the game auto-scrap equipment that has been purchased with real-life money?
Anyone?
Bueller? -
My educated guess would be, unless all your existing gear is better than the item you are purchasing , then yes, it would be scrapped. Which begs the question, why purchase it if isn't better than your lowest item?
-
-
Thanks @BttlOpener .
I agree that it would have to be a low item in order to be scrapped, but regardless of whether I still use the item or not, i've still spent real-life cash on it and would like to know if the game has the ability to trash it without my permission. -
@THX_1138 By the way, good forum name. I totally understand. When you first posed the question, I thought to myself 'How much GREAT equipment does this person have to worry about purchasing a legendary item and worrying about if it would be scrapped?'. LOL
-
@BttlOpener Yeah, my question kinda evolved and became more precise as this thread progressed.
-
It would be an interesting experiment for a player to upgrade 299 items at least once and then purchase an item to see if anything does in fact get scrapped.
-
@zbot Thank you for your reply. You stated that purchased items are not immune from auto-scrap. Is this an official answer directly from NextGames?
If so, and I really want to be clear on this, does auto-scrapping items that have been purchased with real-life money conform with Apple's and Google's terms of service regarding in-app purchases? -
Interesting question...what if you bought an item when you were a lower level, and maybe you didn't have enough XP to upgrade it at the time, but then when you get the XP you decide to upgrade something else, and then you forget about the paid for item...then it falls below the level of your good stuff but you keep it anyway...if you paid real $, no matter what you choose to do with it, can NG scrap it?
Xoxo -
@zbot It would be super awesome if we could have a little counter in our equipment storage inventory of the number of items we currently have since some of us save low gear for nostalgia purposes ;p

@terminates , yes, that's been asked for before. Not sure if that's in the list of updates but will follow up.
@THX_1138 , @tammy , following up with NG regarding the question. -
I have more than 360 items. I recieve the auto-scrap message very often, but I only lose my unequipped common/uncommon/rare equipment. I have never noticed any epic/legendary equipment missing after an auto-scrap (and I still have my level 1 epic scout weapon, which I recieved months ago).

Please @zbot !!
I'm sure the majority of us would rather have a Total Item Counter & not how many items can be Upgraded!!!

I scrap 99.99% of 1,2&3 star items as soon as I get them and any 4&5 star unless I have a survivor going up through the ranks. Although obviously I keep a spare in each category so i can swap gear around my survivors if necessary.
I have no real intention of adding to my survivors so all surplus gear goes immediately.

the total "upgradable items" just makes me sad... Knowing almost every item takes roughly 3 million to fully upgrade I'd only need 450 million xp to upgrade all 150 items I have that are upgradable. Better get cracking since I only need 449,500,000 more XP to upgrade them all!rgerkman said:Please @zbot !!

I have Daryl's Crossbow at Level 7 and it says it's at maximum level. Doesn't it upgrade? how can it stay at level 7? is there another crossbow I don't know about?
