Overwatch issues

This seems to happen to me sporadically. It can be with walkers or raiders, but overwatch does not engage because my suvivor is looking the other direction. I've been bruised twice on the challenge because of raiders rushing up and interrupt not stopping them. There were no walkers on the map at the time.

It has happened to me also. But only against my warrior.... Not related to the 2.1 update.

I make sure to "aim" my ranged survivors to the walker before I end an overwatch turn. I have seen them not engage the walkers with their backs to the herd before the update.

@NCDawgFan Sometimes there aren't any walkers and the raiders can't be seen to aim towards. If a raider ca rush up and stab you with a sword, seems like overwatch should have been triggered.

Im 99% confident that "aiming" does absolutely nothing. And if you are looking the other way, you will still target them.

I can confirm that facing has zero effect on the ability of a survivor to get off an overwatch shot.

In the case of survivors shooting the wrong target, it's a case where the game picks an order to check each survivor to see if an Overwatch shot is possible, and if so the shot is taken. This can be frustrating, and something I'd like to fix. Maybe soon? I need to research what is possible in a short amount of time, and if testing would take more time than we have.

In the case of a survivor not taking an Overwatch shot at all, remember that what you see is all of the area that any of your survivors see, and that each survivor has to have their own line of sight in order to take a shot. It's possible that while one of your survivors could see the walker, the one on Overwatch couldn't, and therefore couldn't shoot.

If there is a case where the survivor on Overwatch is the one that gets stabbed before they get their shot off, that might warrant reporting, and trying to capture. Situations like that are often frustrating and time consuming to try and reproduce, and often can't be diagnosed without seeing it happen. I hope that this isn't a bug we actually have, but if you see something, say something.

@Shteevie the overwatch problem with shooting further away targets only started at the beginning of the last challenge . It had worked consistently the same forever before that . I can link some videos people made to show the new problem or make one myself if it will help?

Say there's a walker in close proximity to one survivor (but not right next to them) and other walkers further away , what used to happen is a ranged survivor further away would fire at the walker that was an immediate threat to the survivor in danger .. now they randomly fire at other walkers further away and your survivor gets hit or struggled by the closer walker . Hope that made sense

@Japes87, did it only effect the last challenge. I thought once that challenge was over, it worked like normal again.

@Shteevie I've seen overwatch engaged on walkers that come around a corner that were not initially in the line of sight of my survivor. Why wouldn't it work the same with raiders?

@blynknz it's still doing it for me , not every time , seems to depend on where walkers are at in relation to your survivors. I'm attempting to make a video and I'll share here once I do

None of the code or logic surrounding the overwatch functionality has changed at all in the last 2 months. Maybe there was an element of the map layout or line of sight that cause weird target picking.

I'll check out some videos soon and see if anything looks erroneous.

Had this experience around 5 times.
A walker two grids away from my survivor (straight line, nothing blocking his view) walks up to the survivor and overwatch doesn't work.
Don't have video proof, I'll try to record as much as possible.

Perhaps it should be renamed "Underwatch"?
