What in the name of Rufus are hit points

Our characters have damage and health so which one is hit points? The way things are going today I want to make sure I understand correctly what got nerfed yet again.

    The terms have been used interchangeably since the very first days of table top RPGs.

    I know that some games interchange terms but this is NG we are talking about and NG loves secret nerfs and they may have used the term hit points before but I've never seen them use the term hit points and I have seen them say health a lot more than hit points. Some consistency would be nice but I forgot that logic and common sense went out the window long ago when it comes to this game.
