What determines how many IPs are lost in a failed raid or failed defense?

Anybody know? I lost 25 IPs earlier in a failed raid. When my defense loses, the IPs lost are anywhere from 7 to 14.

It's based on how much difference there is in influence between you and the other guy.

@sborg no there was not a difference of 25 IPs. The difference was much greater to loose 25. Is the IP Level of attacker and defender is round about equal, I think it's something around 12 IPs to win.
If you are much higher than the defender, mostly you get 10 ( that's the minimum to win ).
If you are much less than the defender, you can win much more (20,30,....).

@David_H79 has it right, that's why I said it was 'based on' the difference, not a direct correlation of the difference. We don't know the exact formula, which is why I didn't elaborate further.

I lost 2 influence earlier,lol,that one really hurt! Gonna take forever to get those back!
