Question about guild size.

The leader of my guild needed to be away for a bit. So I am the new leader. If I change the guild from "join by request" to "open" can you have more than 20 members? I thought I'd read a post about how members stars are counted towards challenges that made it seem as though that guild had more than 20 members. We promised someone they would have a place to return to and an elder accepted someone bringing our total members to 20.

When I searched maximum guild size all the results were from last year.

@Mere the max size is 20.
No way to accept more members in one guild.

Just go and open another "branch" of your guild, by making a new one.

Alternatively see if anyone has space in their already established guilds.

As a small independent guild we don't often need replacements, however when we do I find it harder and harder to find people. The large multi layered guilds seem to grow and add more guilds to their families hoovering up everyone they see.

I personally would like to see all of the guilds full before a family adds another level. Please consider this before opening another branch.

What does it matter if you have 60 people in 3 independent guilds or 60 people in 3 connected ones?

Also, why should someone force a player to leave their friends for another guild instead of adding more friends?

As a matter of fact, a guild family offers more flexibility for players.

Don't get me wrong @Jaden I'm not suggesting people leave their friends behind. My point is creating another branch for a single player will create 19 vacancies.

I'm lucky that my guild is relaxed, friendly yet still active. However when we do have a vacancy it's hard work trying to find people who need a guild.

You only have to look at the 'player seeking guild threads to see how many recruiters are posting when someone expresses an interest.

    @Scowley

It does not really make sense to branch out for a single player, that's true. I was more referring to the general idea of rather filling all the individual guilds before branching out.

It is hard to find people who need a guild, that's also true. I am part of a guild family with 3 guilds with a minimum and 1 without. We started out as one, then split, then added the no-minimum one for vacation and were approached by another guild and merged - because it is easier to recruit for 3 guilds than it is for 1, even though that may sound as if the opposite must be true.

We can offer people a place to grow, to move to another of our guilds if they get better or need to lay back a bit... same as the other (even bigger) guild families.

It would not matter much - at least that is what I think - whether 10 different single guilds try to recruit the player or 10 guild families or one leader from a family with 10 guilds. And for many guilds, merging might be a good way to get new players and find a place for themselves (maybe not a full guild - unless the rankings are very different with some getting a lot of stars and others don't - but for half guilds or guilds with even fewer people).

I agree about the mergers. I love reading on the forum when two incomplete guilds combine rather that soldier on half full chasing those illusive missing members, it brings a smile to my face.

I also appreciate difference wether it be tiered family guilds or individuals cutting their own way guildless. This is a game and it should be fun for all.

My gripe, and that's what it is my own petty gripe is that I don't enjoy have to hunt for new guildmates when I could be playing the game. Anything that gets in the way of that is selfishly an annoyance for me.

In conclusion, extra member someone else says we'll take 'em - Scowley happy. New guild to compete with sad Scowley ;)

I agree - hunting for new members isn't fun. We have just lost another player. The low minimum guild often attracts people who are not going to keep playing for long, unfortunately. Oh well...

I play 3 accounts, so... I have to find time to do that and to recruit (and do guild stats, plan movements and whatnot - I should get paid for this :p ).

I have thought that if a guild collectively reaches so many badges that they should be allowed an option to increase the member capicity.

Its pretty hard to get and keep 20 competitive ppl together for a globally competitive guild so I'm happy when 20

I've considered starting a second guild for holidays or just those who aren't keeping pace - hate having to banish people when activity/star output drops. But what stops me is knowing I'd then have to arse about with a separate chat app to keep it all running. So more sophisticated in game chat system where you can communicate outside current guild members would help
