GUILD WARS - The Future - Discussion thread

I've not heard any leak or real info about it tho.
What will it be?
A new way for guilds to compete in challenges?
Perhaps a way for guilds to unite in collective outpost raiding for guild influence?
Both???
Or an entirely new game mode??
What are your expectations?
Hopes?
Dreams?
What do you think would make a good "Guild War" experience within the limited confines of the current game state?

I am not a big fan of the "mobile" guild v guild mechanics in general. I kind of like my mobile game to be casual and not too intense requiring lively active concurrent player involvement. If I wanted to play an MMO battle grounds - I would fire up my PC.
This is the reason I quit playing Road to Survival. Their Guild War after a while became a chore and a huge drag. And if you wanted good loot you had to participate. It just ruined my gaming experience so I quit playing that.
I'll hold and reserve my judgement on No Man's Land until I see what they come up with. -
Based on the description of the razor trait, it mentions that it reduces damage reduction from badges and iron skin and that we will need it soon.
It sounds like some sort of PvP style game mode as there is no current game mode where the enemy has any badges as we know they don't work in outposts. I've always liked to play a live battle against another player so this is what I'll be hoping to see. -
Not so much a prediction, but rather just wishful thinking by me: Every guildmate assigns one of their survivors into the Guild-Wars “pool” and that forms the survivor-roster for all guildmates to use in whatever weekly combat feature exists. This would really solidify the team/guild concept and require some coordination by Guild members too (plus we get to use each others’ survivors!...and NG already has our AI-clones of our survivors for outpost-defense, so a similar game coding already exists).
-
I'm just hoping it's not something requiring live coordinated participation.
One of the draws of this game for me is the "play at your own pace" mentality.

Please please please don't let it be like other games where I now log in and find resources/gear missing because someone with 8 and 9 pinks stars came in and destroyed me, while I was sleeping.
I like the idea of something new, but I work hard to gain what little I gain. It is so frustrating to come back from a day of work or a night of sleep and find my resources drained, my progression on a build is cancelled, or a level of toon is reduced.
If I wanted a PvP game, I'd be playing (____insert name, no free advertising___)!
If this is the new standard, could it at least be an opt in?Descensus in cuniculi cavum

Agreed. This was the reason why Outpost got adjusted when it first rolled out.
Logging on and finding TG missing. That was not fun. I was about to quit the game for sure.
Like I said. I play mobile game for the casual mobile aspect. Play on my own time at my own pace.
While the game mode (guild wars) might be fun and exciting at first. I know first hand. It becomes tedious and tiresome fast.
And when it becomes competitive and demanding, it ultimately comes down to only a small handful of guilds (a few people) benefiting from it. And it turns off everybody else.
It's okay if it was ONCE a year. or once every 6 months. But every week/weekend- it quickly becoming annoying after 3 months.
I just said hell with it. I sunk like 2000$ on building up my collection. But the pace of the game and competitive demanding nature of the guild war. I said screw it. Not worth my time or money.
StarWars Galaxy heroes started doing Guild Wars twice a week. After like 6 months of playing with that, I said no. this is too much. I quit playing that too. Was fun and exciting at first. But quickly you soon to realize it's a drag/chore. -
I think NG needs to think about the 'current player base. And evaluate if the guild war new feature is going to cause the current player base to quit playing or not.
And then evaluate if the feature is going to bring in new players or turn off new players.
It's a gamble imo. All I can say is know your audience.
Usually any sort of competitive guild war features that get added, ends up creating an 'upset / churn for guilds. where guilds end up falling apart because some like the new feature and their current guild isn't active enough to participate or be involved competitively- so you get a casual group and an active group divide and the guild goes through a lot of change shuffle. or die off. -
I trust that NG will make the right decisions on features that can turn players off.
In the past they have gotten rid of the permadeath NODES for challenges.
And they have changed the outpost where you don't lose TG when somebody attacks you.
So these things are signs that NG have made adjustments to their games removing features that just aren't 'mobile/casual' player friendly. I hope that whatever they're planning isn't going to turn away players.
-
My guess is the "new" heroes are Guild War reward token/drops.
My hopes are- the new game mode doesn't demand a lot of 'active' coordination requiring too much external communication like Discord/Vent/LINE/Skype. I like the current challenge mode where its play at your own pace and you have 5 days at your leisure to get things done. So nothing too intensive.
-
These "new" heroes will likely be introduced with the update in a couple of days while the guild wars is slated for later this year.
I'm not sure what I'm expecting. I haven't played other games that had guild wars, but I imagine it will be a very similar format here to what is available elsewhere. I too don't want to see any type of coordinated play at certain times. I log in at all weird sorts of times right now but don't want to schedule my life around this game.
I can't imagine NG doing something vastly different than other games when it comes to guild wars. Look at the signs: duplicate heroes instead of new ones (possibly due to licensing issues, but still), FINALLY now getting a Razor trait for melee when the equivalent for ranged play has been in the game for how long, inability to figure out the challenge fiasco, reshuffling Distance map order to create "new sets" instead of adding new maps...they aren't been creative as of late. Sure, some pretty cool new things are coming to the game, but many of these have been suggested by players long before. Players that might not be around to see the things come to fruition because they got bored long ago. -
I haven’t played any games with anything like guild wars, so I asked my guild mates about it. If it is played the way it is in other games I am out. I want to play at my pace. I don’t want to lose my resources. I don’t want to pay real money except once in a blue moon. As a matter of fact I have decided to hold onto my money even tighter in case I end up walking away from the game. NONE of my guild mates want to participate but from what I understand there is no choice.

There's definitely a need for another reason here.
I think this should be the first reaction added:
"Hmmm..."
I'd pretty much have clicked that on every comment in this thread. All good points and valid concerns. Thinkers.

Yea. Usually PvP with Guild Wars in these other games that have live coordination and sessions, they have a "money grab" mechanics where you pay to attack more often otherwise you have to wait for the 'freebie' gas.
Such competitive play becomes really obnoxious and annoying when you're in a guild with other paying members. That make you feel like if you're not paying or actively doing your part to win, they rage. It's pretty bad. Reason why I quit playing WalkingDeadRoad to survival cuz of their guild wars. -
I hope I can kill off one of the inactive players in my guild before I boot them.

I think it will be just a side ranking machine combining scores of weekly challenge pairing every week 2 (..random?) guilds to see who is the winner..."Always be yourself unless you can be a capybara. Then always be a capybara".

Razor Trait
Melee weapons are getting a big boost with the addition of the Razor Trait. It reduces the chances of attacks resulting in a Body Shot, similar to the Piercing trait, and also decreases the enemy's Damage Reduction by a hefty chunk. This makes melee survivors much more useful in high-difficulty missions, allows for Bruisers to stun at higher levels more often, and is a great counter to enemies loaded up with Iron Skin and DR Badges. [The last is something you might be doing more often in the future]

...it's that [last line] that concerns me. Makes me feel we'll be live attacking each other or something. Very concerned. :-/

Played an online game once that gave each player in a guild a chance to attack the game matched guild. At the end of the Timed War, rewards were given to both winners and losers. The winning guild obviously got the better rewards.

Now that's something I could get on board with @Camel56

To be honest, this game probably needs some kind of competitive PvP in order to have a long term future. Pretty much every game I've ever played of this kind has relied on competitive guild or player based PvP to drive incremental purchases.
I'm somewhat with Walker Ron in the sense that I've played a lot of games at the highest level and my competitive nature takes over (e.g. setting my alarm to wake up at 3am to take part in battles) so NML is one of the first games I've found where I can suppress my competitive streak and 'play casual' (well, circa 1100 stars casual).
One thing I'd ask is that the outcome/structure isn't too time zone dependent. With many guilds spread geographically across the world, one persons 7pm is anothers 2am. -
Yup that's another problem we had to deal with as a guild. The time zone difference for guild members. It's going to be a major shake up when guild war comes.
I started playing this game to get away from all the crazy guild War stuff. Hope I don't have to retire from this game later. -
The game I played that had guild wars, was Call of Duty Heroes. I believe your guild had 2 or 3 days to try and defeat up to 2 players in opposing guild. Same with the opposing guild. After you attacked the players base, that base is defeated and other guild members needed to attack other bases when they logged in.
No one needed to be online at the time except for the attacker. At the end of the war everyone was awarded something but the winner of the war was awarded a bonus.
I can see where each guild beefs up their outpost or predetermined battleground with a number of survivors and when the war starts. The opposing guild has to meet the objectives of a battle to be able to score a win. After time runs out whether all players fought in the war or not, a winner is declared by the results. -

Something where its at your own pace is not bad.Camel56 said:The game I played that had guild wars, was Call of Duty Heroes. But in some other games I've seen have time limits, 40-50 minute match up rounds. All has to be online to attack, cash grab mechanics where you buy War Specific Gas Refills to attack again or wait for the refill timer. That's timed base/match session based. Usual mechanics like set your defenders on defense, and use attackers of your choice.
Another game I played had "zones". It is has a attack at your own pace. HOWEVER, this one is a bit annoying and time based because you'd have to login regularly to check to see if a zone is cleared so that you can attack the next zone. While it appears like an attack at your own pace, it really is not because you have to keep logging on to check to see if a zone is cleared or not to progress. This is one of the worst mechanics ever because a lot happens over night. And some players only have time for specific login /play time. A lot of times you're depending on other players having to clear a zone before you can do your part to win. Or if you do your part to clear a zone and you have no more attackers left, you're waiting for the guys who didn't login to do his part. There were a lot of variation to the mechanics that really became a problem with blocked zones.

I would like to know more info on this guild wars now rather than later so I can decide to quit sooner before I invest too much more than I have already. I'm tempted to spend money now to get my camp up to speed but realizing I might be wasting my money if I'm going to be quitting later.
