Guild War Mechanics - Getting Started?

here is the answer to all your questions so far ...after the war starts there will be a battle starting every hour, your guild should use universal time utc to agree what time to try and meet on line. if you use utc no issues with time confusionY
You get three keys a day you use one to join a battle . The next day you get three more, They do not carry over so you can do max three battles a day six per war.
If at least seven members of your guild are on line , each can request to join the next battle , first come first serve. You can join during a battle if 10 members of your guild are not participating yet. Each time you join a battle you use one of your three keys for the day.
The company has taken the time to try and match guilds as evenly as possible, to keep the game fun . Many factors go into which guild battles which guild.
These of course are educated guesses based on the utube videos by pain walker and the company interviews . Almost everyone will be learning as we go that is part of the fun. once again don’t stress have fun after one battle so much will become clear
Mods please correct my if any of this is wrong , just trying to help.
Other players let me know if this helped
Enjoy , -
Hello, everyone! I'll add some answers to the questions posed here, but I have a little bit of a general message to give first.
We ran several beta tests with players from around the world during the GW development period, and in those tests, we sort of threw everyone into the deep end from the start. Meaning that we gave no instructions on how to find the game mode, sign up, or what to expect. And though there were questions, they were all answered by players in the test rather than by some long explanation that was given by NG staff.
All of this is to say that we put a lot of work into making the feature as easy to use as we could, and we feel that we were pretty successful based on the responses from players just like yourselves. So, though I will be adding some answers below, I really don't think that you would be unsure of what to do when the first war starts on Saturday.
Ok, on to the questions:How do we get into a battle?
When a War is ongoing, the Mission Hub button [that you will see on Friday] will clearly say so. Tap it, and you will be taken to the sign-up lobby if your Guild is not currently in a battle. When you get to the Lobby, just hit the 'Join' button to add your name to the list. When do Battles start?
Battles will start every hour, on the hour [based on UTC time]. If a Guild has between 7 and 10 members signed up, their Battle will start at about the :00 minute of the hour. There is a countdown timer in the lobby to help you plan.Do we have to place defenders?
No; the game will select your best survivors, form them into teams, put the hero in the leader position, equip them with the highest damage weapons and highest defense armors you have for those classes, and use those teams as enemies for the other Guild. For this mode, you "best survivors" are those with the highest levels and most stars, with Heroes being considered slightly better than equal level / rarity survivors. No special screens to learn, or extra roster management. This also means that an inactive guild mate cannot accidentally give the other Guild a benefit. What happens when a survivor dies?
If the mission you are playing is just you versus walkers, then it's like a Challenge or Scavenge mission - one dead team member will cause you to lose the mission. If you are fighting Survivors from the opposing Guild, then you can continue to fight until all three of your survivors are defeated, and any enemy survivor you take out will stay defeated if you lose; you or one of your Guild members can try that mission again and finish off the rest of the opposing team. What about players in different time zones?
Battles are only 50 minutes long; this is why we need people to sign up before a Battle starts, as a way to commit to playing. However, so long as they are online at the same time, members of your guild from anywhere in the world can play together.
If you sign up for a Battle, but there are fewer than 7 players from your Guild signed up when the battle would start, you will stay signed up for the next 3 Battle slots. This way, players don't need to check back every hour to sign up again.
Additionally, when your battle does start, you will receive a notification from the game letting you know that it's time to come back and kick butt. So make sure you allow notifications from the game! Can players in different time zones play in a Battle later on?
If you arrive to the game while a Battle is in progress, you can join in so long as there is still room on the team. Up to 10 members of the Guild can play in a single Battle. You can still be a great player even if you come late, and your first 5 used GW Gas is refunded after the Battle, so there's no reason to sit on the sidelines!
However, once the Battle is complete, it cannot be accessed any more. We hope Guilds will be able to sync up and play with each other in real time. If your Guild is spread out around the globe, consider setting up a "North America" battle time and a "Europe" battle time with your Guild mates. Maybe the US and Canada players can stay up and play in the evening, or the EU players can get their battle on in the mornings, and then everyone can play?
Being in Finland, we here at NG know very well that time differences are annoying and sometimes difficult to work around. This is why the War lasts for 2 days and happens on the weekends, when hopefully more players can be more flexible with their time. What happens to unused keys?
Keys are "Use 'em or lose 'em". You will be refilled to 3 keys at the start and mid-point of every Battle. There is no way to have more than 3 keys. What happens to unused GW Gas?
You keep it until you use it. Even if you cannot play this War, any GW Gas you get as a reward or from the shop will stay on your account until you use it. There is no cap to the amount of GW Gas you can stockpile. Of course, you have to use it if you want to gain in Tiers or earn Reward Points.

We will be releasing a video soon that contains the answers to questions like these and a few more. Kaz and I had a blast shooting it; the editing is being completed over these last couple of days. Keep an eye out for it!
If there are other questions, feel free to ask, but I am really confident that it will all make sense when you see the game mode screens for yourself. Good luck in the War this weekend!

I'm just going to say it. Absolutely terrible design concept. If an active community with 100s of thousands of players it may work, but with an inactive community spread across tons of guilds, with Max 20 players, most of which get like 20 stars a week. Expecting 7 people online to start is going to be a difficult venture for over 50 percent of the players base...it's going to make guilds break up and divide the community. I'll try it tomorrow but my mind can't grasp how this will work for semi hardcore/casual guilds.

My best survivors are regular ones with 3 pink stars for the most part. But the server will choose heroes instead maybe? Will it use survivors that are guarding the outpost? Will it take into account the various leader traits? If so, that could seriously affect the outcomes.
My best weapons are often not the ones with the most damage. Will my hunter always have the RPG? Will the assault always have the flamethrower? Seldom the most useful options.

Of course I have not played it yet, doesn't mean I can't see its flaws in the design. So far every carrot on a stick they have presented at me I've failed at. Played ever day summer event didn't get rocket launcher... Winter event I'm trying very hard but again not hopeful... Huge disappointment changing gold crates ruining governor who I poured all my radios on. I base me hopes on track record....so I can place judgement on it before it's released. I don't see it being a success in fact I see it the exact opposite. I'm expecting a bomb as a coping mechanism for continual disappointment. Will see -

Noooo.. another "soon" from NG.....
NG your previous makes me worry about this - Based on that means we're likely not gonna find this information out before guild wars starts... -
I'm new to this game, I recently quit playing Road to Survival where I was in a very active faction of 30. Faction wars required either 6 or 8 to be on at a time. It was often tough to fill ques. Doing so with 1/3 fewer faction/clan mates sounds daunting. But here's hoping.
-
Somehow, I think there will be a lot of RPGs flying around guild wars.
-
A survivor with more stars will be chosen before a hero with fewer stars. If you have many survivors that are higher rarity than your best Heroes, then it will likely choose few Heroes from your roster. Outpost-defending survivors can be chosen for GW enemies, but only if they out-rank your other survivors with levels / stars.poguemahoun said:My best survivors are regular ones with 3 pink stars for the most part. The AI cannot use charge attacks, and you have seen how human enemies coordinate. There are many traits that will be better on the offense than on the defense. Lethal, however, or weapons with special above-normal damage - those will definitely make your survivors harder for the opposing guild members to beat. That's why we prioritize them. As level caps increase, you will have more opportunities to selectively upgrade equipment with GW in mind.
And once you are hit by an opposing max-level RPG, you will possibly change your mind that it's not useful in GW.Development Team Member - The Walking Dead: No Man's Land

Our guild being from all over the world is NEVER going to have 7 players online at the same time.
-
@Nick37 you really don't need to have 7 players online at the same time, read Shteevie's explanation.
It may take a few tries but everyone has 3 keys so the maximum number of times you can play in a day is 3 and battles start every hour.
If a bunch of misfits and rejects can figure it out on testing with little or no instructions, I'm confident everyone else can.
@Jenng this is for you!Go Team Pirate!

I don't understand... are 7 people playing in the same battle or are 7 people each playing their own individual battel?
If it's the former, then won't teams who have people 'sign up' but then not show up when the battle starts be at a significant disadvantage? If so, then that's not a solution.
If it's the latter, then why do we need 7 people? Can't everyone just play individually at the time that is best suited for them? That seems to be the best option.
I still feel like this whole system is rigged against multi-national and casual guilds. As someone who leads a guild that is both, I am nervous. I will see how it goes, but we're having trouble arranging a time for 7 people to be online to play. Right now we have 4 people committed to a time on Saturday, and I'm desperately trying to find 3 more, but scared I won't... -
Seven people are playing the same battle together. Each person earns points separately that they can spend in the new shop. Points earned collectively count towards the guild standings on the leaderboard.
If you care about leaderboard standings then you should have ten players at every battle. If you care about earning individual points to spend in the store buying cool new stuff while having fun with your friends, then you only need the minimum 7 players to sign up.
Edit. 7 players must sign up, they don’t actually have to participate in the battle. -
@TransmuteJun the guild wars is made to keep end gamers playing, not for the casual guilds. The goals are to get people to spend money, the endgamers spend the bucks. “Ah....it’s a profit deal! Navin R. Johnson.

If some people in the group sign up so that others can play (even though those who sign up aren't able to play at that time) will the team be at a disadvantage participating with fewer than 7 players in the actual battle?
@xiaofei66 I am an 'endgamer', if by endgamer you mean 'maxed out with multiple pink survivors and have been playing this game for years'. But I'm not *competitive*. I enjoy the social aspects and the fun more than the competing for stars/leaderboards. Hence the casual guild. -
Does the game pick the best survivors from your own roster or from the collective rosters from everyone joining the battle? I would think it is just the survivors from your own roster.
-
@TransmuteJun
I wouldn’t consider it a real disadvantage if you are not playing for leaderboard. The more players you have, the faster you can clear sectors and move to the more difficult and higher point rewarding maps. So you will be losing out on some individual point opportunities. But also, maybe not every player in your guild will be able to actually clear those more difficult maps.
If your guild wins the battle there are also some additional bonus points so those with a full set of 10 in the battle will get those extra points. But I believe that there will be many non competitive guilds playing so things should even out.
Just beating the maps and getting points to buy stuff in the store is pretty cool even if your team doesn’t win the battle. -

Thanks! I sort of thought that the system would pick from your own personal roster. As for the highest-damage weapon, I guess my best Hunter will automatically get equipped with the RPG because it is the highest damage weapon in my inventory. I never use the damn thing. I guess I better start learning how to best use it.SPC_TORRES said:
