Hello all... I have a question to ask your opinion on and would appreciate any input from those specifically in charge of running (either admin or moderator) of online groups such as forums like this, reddit, facebook pages etc.. Anyone who has any responsibility of running a discussion group.

I would like to ask your opinion in a few scenarios to see what others who are entrusted with responsibility of running a group would do.

1) One of your groups rules is not talking about religion. Your facebook friend 'Nancy' posts on her personal facebook page about religion. Question - Do you ban her from your facebook group?

2) One of your groups rules is not talking about racist topics. You see a racist topic joke posted in a group you don't run by a man named 'Fred'. 'Fred' tries to join your facebook group. Do you ban him and/or prevent him from joining your group?

3) One of your group rules is no doxxing. Your facebook friend 'Sarah' had a bad experience with a buyer in a group that you are both in together (not the one you run). 'Sarah' then posts in that group (not your group) that persons personal information. Do you ban her from your group?

4) One of your group rules is no trolling. Your best friend 'Jon' is infamous for posting funny memes on his personal facebook page but has never posted anything trolling in the group you are both in that you run. You and him have a falling out several months later; let's say he stole money from you. Do you, 3 months later, ban him from your facebook group?

Just a few scenarios. I'm curious if any of you run your pages in a way that the rules of your group apply to the entire internet. If someone breaks one of your group rules while outside of your group does it warrant them being banned from your group?

5) your an admin of a group and one of your group rules is not to talk about cheating. It’s brought to your attention someone admits to cheating so you ban them from your group. It’s later discovered that the conversation this took place in wasn’t your group. It’s also discovered the conversation took place 3 months ago to which point the player received a 2 day ban (punishment given already) and the player has not cheated since receiving their in game punishment. Would you reverse the ban because the conversation took place 3 months ago on a group you didn’t run. The rules of your group weren’t broken in your group. The person did not break any rules while in your group that applied to your group. Do you police the internet in this situation?

1) The rule is "not talking about religion" in your group, right? She can talk about it anywhere else, just not in your group. So no banning. She didn't violate the group rules by posting on her own FB wall.

2) I find this to be a little more difficult. It would depend, I guess - personally, I wouldn't want someone who is racist to be in a group I moderate. Even though it has not happened in your own group. But then again it hasn't happened in your group... hmm... difficult. Maybe talk to the person and decide then.

3) Similar problem to the one above - doxxing is a horrible thing to do. Even if it is allowed in the other group, I don't think that should be done anywhere. Maybe talk to your friend and then decide what to do.

4) That's quite personal I would say. It doesn't have to do anything with trolling but it would be hard to keep someone in a group I run who has betrayed me. I wouldn't know if I could stand him being in the group, though he didn't violate any of the rules of said group. If I was the owner of the group, I might ask my former friend to leave. If I was only a mod, I would probably need to put my personal feelings aside.

5) It seems to me that the player didn't violate any of the group rules (and also seems to have changed his ways). So I would let him back in (maybe talk to him first).

In general, all of this is a bit difficult. I wouldn't go out of my way to find out if someone does anything bad anywhere else (or anything against my group rules even though it's not really something bad, like talking about religion for example).

In most cases, I would not let what people do outside of the group influence my group, but as you can see from my answers, it's not always easy. You can't police what people do outside of the group but some people are maybe not worth keeping in the group you run, either.

My main concern was part 5. The first 4 are my lead in to the point that you can’t police the internet.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here and this is a loaded question somewhat. I’ll quote myself from another source of the internet.

“You have any kids ((admin))? Family? Well I have 2 young children. Ones 7 and the other 4. Now in our family we have a rule that if you don’t eat your dinner you don’t get dessert.

Now suppose my family and I go out to dinner. What’s a restaurant you like? Let’s be generic and say Italian. Let’s say my family and I go to a nice Italian restaurant. We order our food. The kids don’t eat it and want dessert. I tell them they can’t have dessert until they eat their dinner.

My 4 year old daughter is very smart. She then says to me “but daddy that little girl over there is having ice cream”

I look over and the family next to me is giving their child dessert before dinner. Now in my family that’s not allowed.

Do you think my family’s rule should apply to that other family? Do I have the right to go over to their table and take the food out of their kids mouth because their family didn’t follow my family’s set of rules?

No it shouldn’t. The rules in my family (page) should only apply to my family (page).

If another family is doing something that is expressly forbidden in my family do they have to succumb to my family’s rules?

I think when you look at it from this perspective it’s clear that your pages rules are not in effect when I comment elsewhere on the internet.

You are an admin of your Facebook page. You should concern yourself with people breaking rules within the bounds of your control.

You don’t control a persons activity on the internet; only on the places in which you’ve been given responsibility to. As I have not broken any of your rules within your page (family) I kindly request you reinstate my account to the page.”

*add admin hasn’t read nor responded to request in over a week.

Somehow that analogy doesn't really work - unless the other family would become part of your family or one of their family members is part of your family already. And also it's rather harmless. What if the rule was not to beat the kids and the other family would beat theirs. How would you feel about making them a part of your family? Would you feel comfortable with them around knowing they beat their kid when they are alone?

Of course you shouldn't police people on the Internet in general. But sometimes it's not easy to ignore certain things. Guess it all depends...

If the rules of this page are not discussing cheating or using exploits but I admitted to using an exploit in an entirely different game on an entirely different form of social media would that warrant my ban from this forum in which I’m speaking in right now?

I don't think it would because the rules are only regarding this game and this forum. Or so I understand.

Applying logic and fairness should be carefully looked at when it has ‘The Walking Dead’ name attached to it.

I already have gaming accounts on Facebook that are in the group so it’s not about “getting over” anything; it’s about showing how rules aren’t broken.

It’s agsinst the rules of this forum to have multiple accounts within this forum. Should I be banned here for having multiple Facebook accounts for games? Should the admins here police me?!

*edit I am banned from the NML Facebook page for an action that took place 14 weeks ago, in a different game, in a different group and had already received a 2 day ban from Game.

This is the epitome of admin powers going to their head lol. I’m sure your power is null over here and since I’m not breaking any rules here the fact you’ve banned me from the NML Facebook page proves abuse of power.

Any other pages for Games you run that I should avoid playing since I’m pre banned from those too right?

I really should address this part first. It was not my desire to bring this to the forums. I was advised by a moderator to contact the admin. The admin I contacted has not responded to me in over a week.

* second edit - I should add that you outed me. You’ve taken a matter that happened elsewhere and exposed (doxxed) me here. I did not mention it was from the fb our world and nml pages until YOU doxxed me by exposing outside information here!!

@DamianDimma when players got that 1 week in game ban around March 2017 were they permanently banned from the forums? If I recall they served their punishment and continued on. Your account wasn’t even around back then. You know what I’m referring to right?

*second edit - I doubt you even played this game in March 2017 but here you are responsible for the Facebook group as an admin


You should check your groups rules. They advise banned for promoting it not doing it. Sounds like a witch hunt to me.

@mongo_nine_one_one she probably created this forum account when Our World came out and spent the last week waiting for me to write something here.

Here’s the thing. You forget if you’re an actual mod or admin of a game or anything that had the license of The Walking Dead or even representative of Next Games it’s important you represent yourself with class as there’s a certain standard that goes along with being a representative of the name.

Calling a user “pathetic” isn’t something that NG probably wants representing them. Since it’s clear you have no authority here (since I’m still freely typing feeelu here) I kindly ask you leave me alone and do not comment further.

I admitted my wrongdoing in that game. I was penalized for it as well.

So please tell me what rule I broke in your group?

It seems Damian is one of the 5 people in charge of moderating the Facebook group for the OW page along with Julia, Nikki, Jeff and Zbot.

I was unfamiliar with Damian up until a little while ago. Now I’m very versed in who she is.

It is quite clear that I’ve obviously upset her in some way. Now that I have seen how admins of that group talk to people I guess I’ll have to take it to the next level.

It’s terrible when you entrust people to run pages and they let the Group size go to their head. I’ve seen it happen so many times. Good people become wicked because they’ve been given a little power and feel they can call users “pathetic”. I guess we’ll see what happens going forward.

@DamianDimma as a moderator you should be sure of what your rules are. Discussing it in your group is a no no. Discussing it in general, anywhere on the internet, is 👏 not 👏 your 👏 control 👏

Can I also ask what rules I broke in the NML page? It’s so weird that I’m freely able to discuss this with you here on the forums but I was cowardly banned for not breaking any rules but because I’m “pathetic and toxic”

I came here to try and get clarity. Trying to see how others in position ms of power would act in a similar manner. This thread isn’t meant to be satire.

I am being punished when I broke no rules of the group. I discovered last night thanks to @DamianDimma who also runs the NML page that I’m banned there too.

NML forums - not banned
NML Facebook group - banned

This didn’t even happen in NML and if Ms. @DamianDimma was as important here as they were there I’m sure this thread would have been shut down by now.

But the powerless here on the forums resort to name calling such as “pathetic” to describe a player when they have no actual authority here to do anything other than name call.

You may temporarily have power over on Facebook but here not so much ma’am!

This is how representatives of NG running their pages and groups speaks to customers? My goodness that’s pretty rude!!

@Kaz can I get some clarity if NG approves of people talking to their customers this way? I’m banned from the NML Facebook group due to Damian’s obvious vendetta against me. What have I done to break any rules in the NML community? Last I checked admins and mods in this forum had no issues with me. I’d check the Facebook page to see if anything’s changed but ya know... vendetta and all...

She was now confident, that she could take someone she met, back home for some, errr... coffee... and she wouldn’t be embarrassed...

DLich, I could always tell that she had a nice evening... she was now pleasant...

The next morning, she would have this “ smug-shit-eatin-grin “...
she had the proverbial “ cat-that-swallowed-the.... ummm... -canary “ look about her...

@mongo_nine_one_one your words bring encouragement lol. I kinda just wanted this thread to be a generalization to people in power and control and I value the input of everyone who helped me get a better understanding of what goes through an admins mind when they make decisions.

I too run several Facebook groups. None of mine are “official” NG branded like my friend @DamianDimma runs and it’s stressful sometimes making decisions when you have thousands of members.

It’s important to never lose your cool. Just like my situation, an image from 3 months ago found somewhere randomly on the internet can come back to bite you in the ass.
