Level Difficulty specifics

Hello Survivors,

I had issues finding the notes on the current wars (started 6/23). I'm trying to determine what decides the difficulty levels for maps. Previously my Guildmates and I have all had the same spread. For example a player with level 27 survivors would see level 37 diff on a map where I level 17 max survivors would see level 27 diff.

Today the spread is altered I see difficulty level 28 where my Guildmates with lvl 27 characters see difficulty 36.

Not sure if there's a bug or if lower level players are being punished.

Thanks!

Difficulty level is based on the average level of your 3 highest survivors/heros or the highest piece of upgraded gear if it is upgraded more than 3 levels over your max survivor level

Good morning Billbam, so because my highest weapon is level 22 my characters are treated as level 19?

That's terrible math on NG's part. Base damage and hit points are still level 17... And the equipment upgrade doesn't account for two whole levels. I would understand being treated as a level 18 (+1 lvl) but plus 2 levels is crazy.

Regardless, thanks for the explanation Billbam!! I really appreciate it. I'll just focus on supporting my team as I'm able.

Your gear would only affect your GW difficulty if you used reinforcement tokens and upgraded it more than 3 levels above your top survivor level.  For example if your highest survivor level is 17 you could have a piece of gear at 20 without causing issues, but if you used reinforcement tokens and make it 21 it would increase your GW difficulty 1 level.

Yeah, I've upgraded to level 22 gear but I don't think that makes me equivalent to a player with level 19 characters... So I'm at a disadvantage in GW because of the level math.

Nothing I can do to change it so I'll do the best I can. Thanks again Billbam.

This rule was put in with the last update because some high level players were taking advantage of this in Guild Wars and playing with low level survivors with gear many many levels higher, thus getting a lower difficulty but having significant more health and damage than would be normal for the level.

Your best bet is to start leveling your survivors.
Imo, prioritize levels first, the weapons second, and lastly armors for everyone except your bruisers. For them levels then armor then weapon last. Run scavange. Run it a lot. You'll make it!

@Punchanello just out of interest why did you level your workshop twice and reinforce a weapon twice before doing any survivors?

I'm sorry for the delayed reply. I leveled my gear first because it seemed like the "best bang for the buck". As I started using badges and higher level weapons I was able to hit higher levels in challenges and the distance. The increase in damage from weapons was greater than I was getting on characters level for level. And I even though it cost reinforcement tokens it seemed logical.

So it won't matter if you level up 1 survivor OR 1 weapon?
I have some 24 survivors and two 27 weapons. Upgrading 1 survivor or weapon will get me difficulty 24,33 (still  counts as 24?)

yes, you even can lvl up two survivors BUT when you get new weapon from shop or distance or summer event for that survivors the base lvl of weapon will same as survivor and then you upgrade them three times this weapon increase you GW difficult
