Why is it so hard to get grenades and other tools for fighting?

I buy as many as are available in the bundles and trade goods, but it's never enough for some of the battles I take part in.  My fighters/weapons are as strong as I'm able to get them right now.

Ok, those are not the best heroes of the current meta, but you should first start by rerolling traits to have the useful ones (e.g. Weakening for Scout, bruiser, Warrior is a must. Lucky is a must for Assault, Shooter, Hunter). Take a look to Z-xer compendium on the forum to learn what to do.

Maybe your hero/survivors build are wrong? Like bad combination of traits/weapons? Share some stuff with us so we could solve this together. Since in game are already lots of possibilities to get tools without even buying them

Agreed, it is tough to give you a definitive answer without more information. Which fighters/weapons are you using? When you say as strong as you are able to get them, does that mean they're max rank? 

For the most part I used SMY for most maps, didn't care for maxing in the challenge and when you do this you don't need tools. Not using them is always the best way to get more tools.

I do agree that there can be some re-rolling to optimize your heroes. There some threads out there on what traits to re-roll.
