What are the red numbers that show above walkers?

So I get that we rack up XP when we kill a walker but there also appears big red and white numbers above them and sometimes survivors when hit. What are these and is there a nebulous score board in walker heaven? Lol

damage of the hit. your survivors have hp, walkers do too. tap on one during your turn to bring up its little info card.

@zoson thanks again for the help. Normally not this stupid but I get so into getting through missions and I'm not doing enough exploring of game to deduce some of these answers. Every time someone answers one of my airhead questions, I want to smack myself with a "I knew that"! lol..
