VERY novice player looking for advice

I figured I could just make this one thread with all my many questions that keep popping into my head. I have recently picked up TWD NML again. I don't remember how far I got last time I played it as that was years ago. I think I'm a level 15 (that's the number by the trophy, right?)

First question: I'm struggling with Daryl (the original one). I'm training my regular favorites that I usually use for missions and at this time, I'm still using Daryl. I mean, it's DARYL. Recently, I rolled Thelma who is an epic hunter. She has four traits compared to Daryl's two. I also have Chad who is a three star hunter who has better traits than Daryl. Normally I take along one hunter, one bruiser and now Abraham with his assault skill (got him last night).

I noticed that a change happened somewhere since I was playing where there are new versions of our favorite heroes. But it seems it will be a while before I am able to replace old Daryl with the new Daryl.

My question is: when do I let Daryl go and stop training him?

So, it's a tale of two Darryls.
I think Hunter Darryl, as in, the rifle-wielding Version, is generally considered a less-than-great hero. His leadership trait is...ok, but there are better hunters out there. Now, he IS very easy to acquire tokens for (lots of episode and story missions award tokens), getting him to a multi-star level is pretty convenient. The benefits of his LT can be gotten elsewhere (for example, there are Plenty of silent or threat-reducing weapons out there) and he's really muscled out in terms of fun and effectiveness by Sasha, Shane..I personally like Magaggie for XP farming, that kind of thing.

Huntsman Darryl, the scout...that's another story. He has an interesting and fun LT that makes him very competitive and opens up strategies. He, along with Survivalist Rick, are generally considered top-tier heroes.

So it's always up to you! But later in the game, it's not really possible to keep everyone levelled up so you gotta pick and chose! At level 15? Doesn't take too long to level folks up, but when you get to the late-teens, you'll likely want to give real consdieration to the survivors and gear you want to take with you through to the end game.

I regret using rerolls on survivors. If I could do it again, I would save them -- I have a long way to go still with rerolling the most used and useful heroes. So my advice would be only reroll heroes.

It's time to shift away from hunter Daryl as soon as you have a better hunter to use -- Sasha. Or Shane or even Alpha. Earlier in the game, my most used team was shooter Maggie, Abe, Sasha. Now my most used team is Beta, bruiser Glen, scout Rick. I was reluctant to switch from ranged to melee, but herding and melee play has helped me get much farther.

My suggestion is you find yourself a guild family and join them. Whether using GroupMe, Line, or Whatsapp many of them have dedicated rooms where you can ask and learn the ins & outs of the game.

A lot of good advice in this thread!

Like @Muirna said, I would avoid using rerolls on regular survivors if you are a newer player. Heroes are so much more powerful and are more valuable in the long-run. Save your reroll tokens, and survive with what you have while you upgrade your camp and your survivors.

And like @DonCoqui said, finding a good guild family where you can ask everyday questions and get better is really valuable for development. I've seen 1k players turn into 3k players in months by being in the right environment!

My personal recommendation is to read guides and watch the videos of end-gamers. Learn the game mechanics, and learn what is important. You may not have all of the survivors and premium weapons to implement the strategies right now, but it helps to know what you should be working towards so you can prioritize the right survivors/traits with rerolls, radio calls, etc.

    Good luck!

There are different levels to the game. You're at the first one. Unlock as few of the special TWD heros as possible and get through your missions and scavenges with the generic survivors. Replace lower level generic survivors with higher level ones as you go. Save all radios. Save all gold. Each level, put xp into leveling up your heros and only 1 new hand item for them to do damage with. Doesn't matter what.  Grind as quickly as possible to get to the next level. The higher you go, the sooner you'll get to the next part of the game.

Don't start adding walkers to your walker pit once you get the walker pit building. By then, be in a good guild where every single person plays actively and group communication is high. If you aren't, then quit your guild and find a new one by reading the recruitment forum here, on the Line community recruitment chat, or on the #guild chanel of Magic's discord server (the unofficial official discord for this game).

Follow that and you'll be good.

I would join a multi leveled guild Family, that has many expirienced players to guide u through your game journey. Don't do what I did and stay with low achieving guild full of novices.

Basically you'll use Daryll lesser when silence isn't the priority anymore, personally i still use him now here and then since i have an infused crossbow for him, i can't help it but crossbows are so satisying to me lol.

When should you stop investing in Hunter Daryl?

    Yesterday.

I haven't used him in probably 2 years.
