Mistakes you made as a beginner?

What are some of the mistakes you guys made as a beginner or throughout your journey in No Man's Land? What are some of the painful lessons or just lessons you have learned since?

I feel this is a good discussion as it helps other beginners like myself to avoid the pitfalls that others have went through. Reading guides alone doesn't account for these personal experiences. 

Are there any mistakes you guys still make even as a veteran?

    Investing valuable resources in non-heroes, wasting radios on anything other than 40 radio calls, unlocking heroes too soon, wasting resources on non-elite heroes (things like using reroll tokens trying to get Critical Aim on Aaron because I had him unlocked before I even had enough tokens to unlock Mercer)

    Whilst non hero survivors eventually became obsolete, long before this I invested heavily into some that had the worst traits before I knew better. Most of them had traits like vigilant, defensive stance, bullet dodge. They just happened to be the first legendary I got so assumed they were the best I could get. 

    Most of them were up to 8* and then scrapped a short while before they announced reroll tokens!

    just upgrading traits and promoting heroes without thinking about rerolling some of the rubbish traits first

    Using reroll tokens on survivors when I just started playing and didn't know any better to save them to use on heroes.

    I advise against using resources on survivors or spending resources on class tokens while you have limited trade goods.

    I advise doing a lot of reading -- so many answers are already out there if you invest the time to read the discussions and debates and pins on the NML Discord server for example.

    Scrapping purchased weapons.....some of which (i.e. Abraham's Military Rifle, Rick's Silenced Pistol, Alpha Wolf Sickle, Carol's Snub Nose Revolver, Tire Iron, Sasha's Rifle with Gold Silenced, ect....) I have never seen again, either in bundle shop or Black Market, because I thought there would never be the option to upgrade or that they would be automatically scrapped due to assumption that you could only have a finite amount. HOW I REGRET DOING SO NOW!!!!!!!!!

    In Getting Burnt, I didn't realize we could exit the camp through the gate (even though the mission's description specifically mentions it). So every time I would backtrack via the bottom of the map and face a big horde of zombies with basic weapons.  :|
    I found out about the gate while watching a video on Youtube, and I was like... "Oh..."   :s

    Wasted reinforcement on blue weapons
    Wasted repeat tokens on useless traits

    Starting over because I unlocked 90% of the characters at level 15... not the mistake I'm wanting to mention though.  Upon starting over with hardly any survivors I keep accidentally sending my daily free ones away because I am just use to basically auto-hitting the exchange for tokens button.  Did it to my first two free survivors so I'm stuck waiting forever when I do a full wipe, haha.  The joys of youth.
