Champion Assault Rifle - Initial thoughts?

Just wanted to stimulate some early discussion in the community of the new upcoming weapon that we will work to in a few weeks being the CAR!

Champion Assault Rifle - Lucky / Concussion / Piercing
Special functionality - The CAR has a slightly narrower attack cone, but with longer range. Charge attack is a bonus attack that can be targeted anywhere on the within range. Deals additional damage.
Bonus Stun - A cone-shaped bonus attack that stuns and can be targeted anywhere on the ground

I've added some poll options!

My personal view is that the charge attack being a bonus is definitely something to look and test - especially when coming with Yumiko for 3 hits per round. I guess my only hesitancy is that the charge target of Decimator/Obliterator is much more versatile / safe which would push it below the tier of them. I think it will be used and a good addition, however more of a situational piece as opposed to safe go to default weapon

I might have misunderstood your write up but I thought it was a bit different to how you’ve described. Uncharged attack will be cone shaped. Charge attack with be an ‘on the ground’ dcm style attack, then a bonus attack after a charge attack will be an additional cone shaped attack.

In the hands of a high level Mercer this will be crazy. The gun does what Yumiko does for Princess/Mercer, which means Yumiko might not be needed (in which case, hello Tyreese) or you could keep her and have an additional shot each turn.

The traits are really strong too. Lucky means more MAA, more primed (which means even more MAA) and with the right leader more charge points. Concussion is obviously great and Piercing means Mercer kills much more easily

It's OK, but the Lucky Decimator still rules with it's ability to reach around blind corners. Plus, the Piercing trait lessens its value with Sasha in the lead. I won't upgrade it when we get to the next Council level.

I always see problems with metalheads when i read "A cone-shape attack". I prefer Decimator in GW.

In challenge it will be a very good alternative to the Decimator.

are you sure its ground based and with circle attack? i saw that gif and there was no circle in the charge attack visible, maybe iam wrong?

I don’t think it’s circle

but then with this princess can go solo - meaning you can go princess Mercer on many maps

It’s ‘on the ground’, what shape do you think it’ll be?

Edit: I just reread the SF, I think @darkdestination and @XZer are right. Sounds like it’s still cone shaped and can be targeted anywhere (like DCM) but still fires in straight line from the hero (like HazDozer). Still think it’ll be a game changer because it means Yumiko won’t be needed on a lot of maps (which is massive, Yumiko is the one constant in all the ranged mega teams - SPY, SMY, PMY), but maybe not quite the game breaker I first thought

It will be a powerful weapon for Princess, give her the opportunity getting charged every rounds without Yumiko.
Opens up many other team combination in ch beside Sh/Princess/Yumi

☝️ This is the advantage. I'm not a huge fan of the area of effect, but a skilled player could work with it.

I don’t think it’ll be a game changer but it’s the most fitting option for me as I never use decimators anymore so I think it’s a great weapon with a different functionality which will get a good run out on quite a few maps.

As someone who loves challenges i love the concept of a 2 Attack Assault wep

I dont care metal heads i always take rid of them with any weapon on any 50+ Mission

Have it levelled up and I think it’s crap. Don’t think I will be using it when I have a Decimator, RAR and recently acquired DAR(don’t use much)

You'll need someone on board who can inflict status (Morningstar, bruiser, Cripple, etc). Princess only charges herself if she hits an enemy with status.

Yeah just had her continually charge herself. I will admit it. I got that one wrong. Haha.

but piercing helps Mercer with SS so I wanted to check it..

@liorsalman yeah I get it. As usual, campaign weapons aren't released with ideal traits.

If season pass included one with widespread, +Concussion, Cripple, Ensnare, etc etc that would be mind blowing awesome. But this free one still pretty cool. Not an "all the time" weapon, like some others, but still a very useful tool.
