On the Battle Stats screen I have one fight left, but on the mission map I have none. Why is this?

I hadn't noticed that. Yup it was a coincidence. After all the universe is ruled by chance and indifference. 

Further to the above, I did get my VP after quite a delay. The thing is- did my opponent get any VP? Could make a difference in a tight battle.
